		What is a bonsai painting? My inspiration for my landscapes come from the bonsai tradition--the art of gathering heaven and earth in one's hand. When one gazes upon a bonsai, one should gain the impression of the whole tree's spirit--natural and complete even though it is in reality an illusion of a real tree. I hope that when people contemplate one of my paintings, they gain a feeling of how time, people, and nature are in a constant movement together and experience the feeling of a completelandscape--filled with that particular locale's essence. I paint in 'plein air' or out in nature, observing and reacting to natural light and seek to capture a spontaneous impression of what I am experiencing in just that specific place in that specific period of the day or season. When one gazes upon of one my paintings I hope people experience nature and not to be conscious of my hand upon the paper.
